A good breakfast

I have often wondered about the need for a 'good breakfast' since I find it impossible to wolf down a virtual meal within 25 minutes of waking up. However, it appears that there are significant medical and health benefits of the same. Apparently it kick starts your metabolism, helps you get energy for the rest of the day and gives you a feeling of being full till lunch. Is this like those other things which are good for your health and not good in your personal opinion? Could be.

Now don't get me wrong... I highly appreciate a nice continental thing laid out at about an hour and a half after waking up. Spanish omelets, chocolate chip and banana pancakes, lemon curd and crepe, even mash and bangers are welcome after I've checked my morning email and had a review of news delivered by google but ten minutes after rising it is difficult to even look at food. Even if it is just a cookie.. :)

Is there a happy medium?

Why the Mac Mini

As an IT professional, I have had my run of computers over the years. My first computer was an Apple II, then a 286 then a 386DX-40, then a Pentium 1, a Pentium 200MMX, a P3-800, a P4 1.5, an AMD Athlon 3000+ and somewhere in between I collected iMacs, iBooks and three Dell Laptops which are no longer being used. I understand and have come to the realization that there will always be a workhorse computer even though there may be others used for 'special tasks' and occasions. For example, 99% of my work is done on my desktop but I still have two laptops just in case.

It is precisely for the 'just in case' reason that I want a Mac Mini. I know that I will probably never use it as a replacement for my vastly upgradeable blackbox IBM compatible machine. I understand perfectly well that Apple has a habit of simply discarding old machines when new ones pop up but the mini is an object of desire. It is as sweet looking as an Italian sports car of the 1980s and just about as practical.

Come to think of it, I am also quite fond of sports cars of the 1980s. Considering the fact that I was dragged kicking and screaming from a car showroom where a 1984 Toyota MR2 was for sale by my friend Asif. The car was going for less than $3,000 but the practicality of the buying decision was questionable to say the least. In the same way, a Mac Mini is a completely impractical computer for IT professionals or for anyone who already owns a more powerful machine. But it is just sooooo cute :)
